Chet Holmgren continues to work on jumper with personal NBA trainer.
With the NBA on vacation, August and September are the perfect months for players to seriously work on their craft and take the next leap in their player development. Even with a championship under his belt, Chet Holmgren understands the importance of this downtime.
Holmgren has habitually posted on social media his offseason workout routine and diet. The 23-year-old won't let complacency settle in after he brought home the Larry O'Brien trophy and received a handsome contract extension this summer.
Instead, Holmgren continues to put work in. The offseason gives him his first real chance to sharpen his blade after last season was complicated by a hip fracture that cost him three months and took him more time to knock off any rust he had from his absence.
Holmgren continues to work with personal NBA trainer Drew Hanlen. The two have developed a rapport over the years. The offseason gives Hanlen plenty of time to do some one-on-one work with his clients. The seven-footer continues to work on his offensive game.
"I've been working on my shot all summer. Even before you I got out here with Drew," Holmgren said. "Just continuing to work on that stuff. Working on being on balance, playing off of bumps, slowing down."
Everybody knows what Holmgren brings to the defensive side. He's one of the best rim protectors and shot-blockers. If he makes an All-Star and All-NBA leap, it'll need to happen on the other side of the ball. It looked like he was on his way to those career feats before he suffered a hip fracture last season.
If Holmgren can become a more decorated self-creation scorer, that unlocks a new level. The Thunder would certainly welcome the pre-hip injury version of himself when he continuously dropped an efficient 20-plus points by going downhill and finishing through traffic.
