Michigan high school football fans are in for a treat this weekend, as the season kicks off with a series of high-stakes contests. The schedule is headlined by three top-25 clashes, while a pair of interstate matchups against Ohio programs add extra spice to the weekend’s gridiron action.

No. 9 Belleville vs. No. 22 Clarkston

When: Thursday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. ET
Where: Tom Adams Field, Detroit, Mich.

The Prep Kickoff Classic kicks off with a matchup of two of Michigan’s top-25 teams. Belleville‘s post-Bryce Underwood era begins with a matchup against Clarkston on the campus of Wayne State. It will be up to junior quarterback Kendall Franklin to keep the Tigers’ offensive momentum going. No pressure!

Massey Prediction: Belleville 34, Clarkston 20

No. 6 Hudsonville vs. No. 7 Byron Center

When: Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Hudsonville Public Schools Athletic Stadium, Hudsonville, Mich.

The Michigan high school football runners-up in Division 1 (Hudsonville) and Division 2 (Byron Center) will open the season against each other on Thursday. Both teams are surely looking to get back to Ford Field this fall, and a win this week would be a great first step toward that goal.

Massey Prediction: Hudsonville 28, Byron Center 23

No. 10 Muskegon at No. 11 Grandville

When: Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Grandville High School Football Stadium, Grandville, Mich.

These two teams haven’t met in a decade, but Grandville has lost all seven of its all-time meetings against Muskegon. They haven’t been particularly close losses, either, with just one game being decided by a single score. The Massey Ratings suggest that this will be one of the closest Michigan high school football games of the weekend.

Massey Prediction: Grandville 30, Muskegon 29

No. 8 Cass Tech vs. Central Catholic (Ohio)

When: Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Tom Adams Field, Detroit, Mich.

The reigning Division 1 champions of Michigan high school football will open their season at the Prep Kickoff Classic against Toledo’s Central Catholic. The Irish are still stinging from their upset loss to Walsh Jesuit last week. Cass Tech‘s talented standouts like four-star athlete CJ Sadler and sophomore quarterback Donald Tabron II are eager to send their opponents back to the Buckeye State with a second loss.

Massey Prediction: Central Catholic 30, Cass Tech 14

No. 27 Martin Luther King Jr. at Whitmer (Ohio)

When: Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Whitmer Memorial Stadium, Toledo, Ohio

The Michigan high school football Division 3 runner-up in 2024, Detroit’s Martin Luther King Jr. will open its season Friday against a Whitmer squad that got started last week with a 30-0 win over Dublin Coffman.

Massey Prediction: Whitmer 37, Martin Luther King Jr. 14
