Tri-Cities — Two of the worst teams in the Appalachian League met on the field Thursday night when the Bristol State Liners, who were still looking for a win in July, hosted the Tri-State Coal Cats.
On the mound, the Coal Cats’ Tucker Delisle was wheeling and dealing through 3.2 innings by only giving up 3 hits, 6 strikeouts, and no runs. State Liners finally get on the board in the 7th with 2 runs, but it was too late as the Tri-State hangs on to win 7-2.
In Kingsport the Axmen were facing the Johnson City Doughboys who came out on fire by scoring the first 6 runs of the game, but in the bottom half of the inning the Kingsport squad got a grand slam by Ty Denton and went on to runaway with it 21-9 in innings because of the run rule.
The game between the Greeneville Flyboys and the Elizabethton River Riders was postponed because of the weather.
