Which Greater Cincinnati high schools have the best football uniforms in 2025?

Greater Cincinnati is home to more than 100 high school football teams. Which ones have the best football uniforms ahead of the 2025 season?

The middle of July is the spot on the sports calendar where everything is mostly quiet, especially in high school sports. Spring sports are over, and most fall sports (including football) haven't started training camps yet.

That makes this the perfect time of year for some less serious and more fun sports content, including uniform rankings. There are plenty of great football uniforms in Cincinnati, and everyone likes different things. That said, according to this writer, here are the 10 best football uniforms in Greater Cincinnati:

10. Kings High School's red uniform

Carson Lindholm (5) is tripped up by the Withrow defense after a short gain for Kings in Division II first round OHSAA football playoffs, Nov. 1, 2024.

There were a ton of programs competing for this No. 10 spot. Middletown's purple uniforms, Wyoming's all-whites, either of Hamilton's or Anderson's main threads, Simon Kenton's blues, Milford's whites, one of Winton Woods's creative combinations and more could've easily grabbed this spot.

Kings takes it thanks to the cool gray outline around the number, contrasting with the fresh two-color look of the rest of the uniform. The helmet's bold K doesn't need an outline to stand out.

9. Taft High School's white uniform

Taft defensive lineman Chayse Mack (51) and teammate Aaron Dowdell Jr. (4) react during the Senators' football game against Mt. Healthy Friday, Sept. 13, 2024.

Despite not being crazy common, Green and yellow are among the best football color combinations out there. Just ask the Green Bay Packers. The Senators do it right, keeping things simple and letting the rich green jump off the bright white. While some may dislike script writing on the side of football helmets, this writer really likes it.

8. Newport Central Catholic's blue and yellow uniform

Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds quarterback Emmanuel Miles (3) throws a pass during the second quarter of the high school football game between the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds and Conner Cougars, Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at Dennis Griffin Stadium in Park Hills, Ky.

As one of the best-looking color combinations, blue and gold is never a wrong choice. The Thoroughbreds' uniforms let those colors do the talking, and the horseshoe in place of the "D" in "'Breds" is a nice touch, too.

7. Moeller High School's all-black uniform

Moeller's Dante Ware (26) runs the ball in the Division I OHSAA regional quarterfinal game between Lakota East and Moeller high schools Friday, Nov. 8, 2024. Moeller defeated Lakota East 55-28

It would be easy for the Big Moe to stick to the iconic blue and yellow with a classic Michigan-esque design, but you have to give them credit for taking a shot with these uniforms.

They have a lot going on, with the baby blue accents, the yellow wordmark and logo above white numbers and the dark blue helmet above the black jersey. It all comes together, though, giving one of Ohio's most iconic football programs a modern and dynamic look.

6. Indian Hill High School's white uniform

Indian Hill wide receiver George Vollmer (3) reacts after scoring a touchdown during the Braves' football game against Harrison Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.

These uniforms are about as simple and classic as it gets, and they should stay that way. All white and red with a hint of black on the helmets and just enough stripe on the shoulders give these threads a vibrant but understated style that would've played in 1975 and will still play in 2075.

5. Withrow High School's all-orange uniform

Withrow wide receiver Kris Bonner (1) runs the ball during their football game against Elder Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024.

The commitment to orange and black here is impressive, with not a hint of a third color visible on the uniform itself. The orange gives the uniforms a flashy feel, and the black accents and helmet compliment nicely while giving the whole getup an edgy and slightly rugged look.

4. Elder High School's purple uniform

Elder Panthers running back Joey Thamann (4) runs down the field with the ball in the first quarter of a high school football game between the La Salle Lancers and Elder panthers, Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at The Pit in Cincinnati.

About as iconic as Skyline Chili in Cincinnati, Elder Panther purple at The Pit will never go out of style. Elder has often worn purple pants with the purple jerseys lately, but the white pants let the jersey do the work (which it does exquisitely) while maintaining a more timeless, clean look.

3. St. Xavier High School's blue uniform

St. Xavier's Daniel Vollmer (3) escapes the would-be tackle of Louisville Trinity's Jack DeBellis at RDI Stadium, Sept. 29, 2023.

Another iconic Cincinnati ensemble, it's impossible to go wrong with the Bombers' blues. Like Elder, the Bombers have worn blue pants with the blue jerseys more often lately, but the white pants play for the same reasons. The stately font of the St. Xavier wordmark and the little flag below the collar push these over the top for the Long Blue Line.

2. Ryle High School's all-black uniform

The Ryle Raiders run out to the field before their game against the St. Xavier Tigers, Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at Clifford R. Borland, Sr. Stadium in Union, Ky.

Watching the Raiders run out of their inflatable skull tunnel for a night game wearing their all-black uniforms, there's only one word that comes to mind: Badass.

Imagine being an opposing running back and meeting one of Ryle's thumping linebackers wearing these black and orange outfits in the hole. No notes for the Raiders.

1. Highlands High School's blue uniform

Highlands running back Gabe Williams (20) runs with the ball against Pulaski County in the first half at Highlands High School Nov. 22, 2024.

Greater Cincinnati's most historically successful football program (22 state titles, nearly 950 all-time wins) also has arguably the region's cleanest football uniforms.

With the royal blue jersey, block white letters without outlines and the tall "HIGHLANDS" below the collar, the Bluebirds' home blues exemplify the idea that less is often more in sports uniform design.
