Bradley Brooks has career day, wins Players Championship 21

Bradley Brooks was putting up insane averages.

Bradley Brooks had one of the greatest days of his darting career on Wednesday.

He took home the title for Player Championship 21, earning him his first career ranked PDC title (Winner of the World Youth Championship title in 2020).

Many may know Brooks from being on the wrong side of one of the greatest moments in darts history.

Brooks played Scotland's Willie Borland in a 2022 WC first-round game and lost to Borland on a nine-dart finish in a sudden-death leg.

Neither player has played consistently on the tour since then, including Brooks, who just gained his tour card back this year.

Brooks recently got his tour card back after not having one in 2024.

Brooks hadn't made it past the semifinal round in a Players Championship event before today.

It took until Players Championship 21, which was Brooks' 185th appearance at a Players Championship event, to make a final, let alone end up winning it.

Although Brooks lost in crushing fashion to Borland back in the 2022 PDC WC, it was somewhat of a high to be in the spotlight at that moment.

Since then, he hasn't qualified for the PDC WC or had any notable performances in tournaments.

Coincidentally, Brooks matched up with Borland through the draw for the round of 128 in Players Championship 21, where he went on to win 6-2.

Call it revenge if you want, even though it was on a much smaller stage, but this was the beginning of what would be a career day for Brooks.

He averaged 108.72 in that match, which turned out to be no fluke.

He couldn't match that average in the next game, could he? You'd be wrong if you thought he couldn't do it again.

He averaged a 108.03 against Chris Dobey, winning 6-3. Dobey had a heck of a game himself, averaging 102.29 in the defeat.

He produced another ton-plus average in the round of 32 against Brendan Dolan, winning a last-leg decider.

A 99.20 average was enough to beat another top player in James Wade, also taking home the victory in a last-leg decider.

Brooks' average dipped a bit in the quarterfinal, yet he still was able to blow out a red-hot Josh Rock by a score of 6-1.

In the semifinal, he took down James Hurrell, who had a career day himself, winning 7-6 and clinching a spot in his first-ever Players Championship event final.

He took down the one and only Gerwyn Price in the final, 8-5, picking up an emotional and career-changing title.

Brooks picked up £15,000 in prize money at PC 21, moving him up 23 places on the Main OoM to world number 73.

It'll take more work to continue to move up and qualify for more events, but his consistency and domination on Wednesday are great signs for him moving forward now.
