Georgia will look to have a much improved run game with a running back room that provides a plethora of different skillsets.
Georgia is determined to run the ball better in 2025. After finishing 102nd nationally in rushing, the Bulldogs know they have to do better.
Some of that will start up front with the offensive line. The rest will come down to a running back room that Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Hall described as “explosive.”
“All of them are explosive. Nate [Frazier] is more like lightning in a bottle,” Hall said. “I see the way he plays. He’s like a mouse. He runs away from my mousetrap just like that all the time. He runs like that, moves like that, but he’s more explosive.”
After leading the team in rushing as a true freshman, Frazier will look to do it again this time as more of a feature back. After splitting carries with former Florida transfer Trevor Etienne, Frazier is now a leader of the group, even as a sophomore.
But Frazier won’t be shouldering the load by himself. He will have plenty of help from the likes of Chauncey Bowens, Dwight Phillips, Roderick Robinson, Josh McCray, and Bo Walker.
“Chauncey is one of those one-cut [backs]. He might give you a move, but he’s really explosive as well, Hall said. “Dwight, Little Nut as we call him, he’s lightning fast. If you get him out in open space, you’re probably not going to catch him 10 times out of 10.”
While Frazier, Bowens, and Phillips will bring the “lightning,” Robinson and McCray will bring the thunder.
“Then Rod and Josh are just big, physically imposing running backs,” Hall said. “There’s a lot of different flavors of things you can get from all of our running backs.”
Don’t forget Georgia’s elder statesman
Then there is Cash Jones, the fifth-year senior,
“Don’t forget about the third down specialist, Cash Jones. Our receiving back,” Hall said. “He’s downhill running, too. I feel like the one thing Cash is getting a lot of credit for is his pass protection. He’s great at pass protection, and he’s kind of strong for his size.”
Georgia has plenty of options in the backfield, all with different skill sets, which is why head coach Kirby Smart isn’t looking to just one running back to do it all.
“They’re a great group, man. It’s a group by committee,” Smart said of the running back room. “They’ve worked really hard. They’re going to continue to work. They all have different traits of size, speed, protection, and catch the ball out of the backfield.”
