Phillies Could Get Into Bidding War With Yankees for 300 Home Run Slugger

The Philadelphia Phillies could enter a bidding war with the New York Yankees for the powerful slugger with 300 home runs.

The Philadelphia Phillies will face some complex decisions at the trade deadline, as the team may need to get creative in a few different ways.

Of course, Dave Dombrowski is expected to add to his bullpen, but it's also possible that the Phillies could go out and make a move that would surprise fans.

That includes upgrading the lineup at positions that may not require an upgrade. One of those that comes to mind is third base, as while Alec Bohm hasn't been great during parts of his time in Philadelphia, he likely isn't bad enough to justify moving on from, despite offseason trade rumors.

When searching for ways for the Phillies to improve at the deadline, On Pattison recently linked them to a surprise name in the form of Eugenio Suarez to replace Bohm.

The Phillies have been linked to a few third basemen ahead of the deadline, but Suarez hasn't come up much.

“For example, if the Arizona Diamondbacks make third baseman Eugenio Suárez available, he's the type of player that they could use hitting in the middle of a lineup that's delivered very little consistent power production outside of Kyle Schwarber. Suárez is an All-Star for the second time in his career, with 28 home runs and an .881 OPS...

“Even though he's a rental, Suárez would likely not be cheap, considering the New York Yankees and other contenders will also be looking to upgrade at third base,” they wrote.

As he touched on, however, the New York Yankees are also expected to be interested. If the Phillies are willing to move a good chunk of players in their farm system, they could be in the mix for a player like Suarez.

If they don't want to move top prospects, it seems likely the Yankees or a different team would win the bidding war.
