West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has voiced his frustration following their crushing 5-1 loss to Chelsea in the Premier League last night.

The Hammers made a bright start and took an early lead in the sixth minute through a fine strike from Lucas Paqueta.

However, Chelsea responded quickly when Joao Pedro levelled the score in the 15th minute. Enzo Maresca’s side went ahead with a goal from Pedro Neto.

The pressure continued as Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah scored to seal an emphatic victory.

Bowen questions defensive lapses

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Bowen admitted that the team was unhappy with their performance.

“Fuming,” Bowen said. “Disappointing. All the emotions that come with conceding eight goals in two games and not picking up a point yet.

“We got ourselves into a really good position at 1-0, and I thought the goals were really cheap on our behalf.

“We did not really make them work for those three from set-pieces, which we have always prided ourselves on over the years, and then a couple more finishes inside the six-yard box.”

“We gifted the goals away. You do that against any opposition – we learnt that at Sunderland last week and we have learnt it again today.”

The club now turn their attention to their next Premier League fixture at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
