There’s no mistaking the mood in Honolulu. Head coach Timmy Chang could feel the shift the moment game week arrived. “There’s definitely a different feel of excitement and all the other things that come with knowing that you’re going into your first week,” Chang said. “Kind of relatable to the first day of training camp, you know, but this is starting to tighten up everything.”

The details matter, he stressed. “Making sure that one you’re not tight in how you approach it, but just making sure the details are what you want them and what they need to be to go out there and succeed,” Chang explained.

Linebacker Jamih Otis expressed a similar sentiment, highlighting the team's overall development and growth. “Spiritually we’ve grown in these past three, four months with just the new guys, the returners, the defense, offense, you know, just seeing how their chemistry is going,” Otis said. “We put in a lot of work through the summer. A lot of new guys that came in…we are excited.”

Chang also emphasized the moment. “I’m hearing we are almost sold out right now and now we get to be on Prime Time Network across the country in Week Zero,” he said.

Quarterback Micah Alejado added that the spotlight only raises the stakes. “It’s a humongous opportunity for us…Just knowing that everybody [is] looking at our program, our team, Hawaii’s team…it is special. It’s a blessing for sure just to be on this stage.”

As for the matchup, the plan is straightforward. “I think it really starts off with stopping the run,” Chang said. “On defense, special teams, we’re executing and we’re winning the field position. On offense, it’s also just performing and executing what we need to do.”
