Indiana Fever Make Roster Move After Unfortunate Sophie Cunningham News

The Fever announced more season-ending news...

Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever have entered the final stretch of the 2025 WNBA regular season, sitting at 19-16 as of Tuesday, good for sixth place in the league standings. But Cunningham suffered a knee injury in the second quarter of the overtime win against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, forcing her to miss the rest of the game.

Now, the former Phoenix Mercury guard will miss the rest of the year.

Cunningham Ruled Out For the Season

After a couple of days of testing, including an MRI, the Fever announced that Cunningham has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an MCL tear in her right knee.

The injury news only gives the Fever more problems at the guard position. They have already been missing Caitlin Clark for the majority of the season. Backup point guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson also suffered season-ending injuries.

The Fever brought in guard Odyssey Sims on a hardship contract to fill that gap, along with Kyra Lambert. Sims played well enough to earn a second seven-day contract, but Indiana elected to release Lambert.

Fever Sign Another Guard After Cunningham Injury

In light of Cunningham's injury, the Fever elected to release Lambert on Monday. However, they were quick to add another guard, bringing in Shey Peddy on another seven-day deal.

Peddy has played in the WNBA for seven seasons, most recently with the Los Angeles Sparks. In six games with LA during the 2025 season, including five starts, the former Temple standout averaged 5.0 points on 41.7% shooting, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game.

Lambert, on the other hand, did not receive much playing time with the Fever, totaling just five seconds of action in the two games she was with the team.
