Psycho T has a new day job.
Tar Heel legend Tyler Hansbrough made a habit of taking the Duke basketball team to school at Cameron Indoor Stadium during his dominant career at UNC. Now, Carolina undergrads have the opportunity to take a class taught by Psycho T himself.
Hansbrough is officially an adjunct professor at UNC, teaching Media and Communication 377: Sports Communication. He has been a regular guest speaker at UNC communications classes before deciding to take professor Livis Freeman up on his offer to try his hand at teaching a class full-time. Hansbrough taught his first class on Tuesday after being introduced by Freeman via a highlight video of his playing days. After class was dismissed, several students took the opportunity to take pictures or get autographs from their unique professor.
Hansbrough stepping into this role is neither a fluke nor simply a nod to his celebrity status as a college basketball legend. Despite being known as quiet and media-shy as a freshman in 2005, Hansbrough ended up majoring in Communications Studies and graduating with his degree in 2009. Since then, he has gone on to start his own podcast and create his own media company. He also regularly appears on the ACC Network as a guest analyst and has been on the Tar Heels Sports Network the past two years. Hansbrough also was a speaker at UNC’s convocation earlier this week.
Hansbrough is leaning on his experiences as a player in both the NBA and around the world to lend a unique voice to the classroom. He drew some inspiration from Peyton Manning’s transition into both an analyst and teaching role at the University of Tennessee after his own decorated career. Hopefully, this means soon we will see Professor Hansbrough and his brothers breaking down UNC games on their own show on ESPN.
