Today we hear from the Miami Hurricanes fans on their expectations for the season. Are the goals fair or perhaps a bit too lofty?
In our newest Miami message board mania feature this morning, we are attacking a thread started by “Hooracane” titled “What will you consider a successful year?”
I, of course, responded that a successful year will be having my two grown children keep their jobs while averaging 20 claws on my stone crab trips.
But it turns out Mr. Hoora was referring to the Miami Hurricanes’ coming season.
Oh, and he somehow started a poll. Apparently he got an advanced degree in data science. The poll on what will be a successful year had four different categories, and at first I could not see any of the results without casting my own vote (believe me, I tried many times including guessing Gary Ferman’s login information … hint, his password surprisingly is not “MattShodellIsAlwaysRight”). Eventually I gave up hacking Mr. Ferman and cast my vote under “10 wins or more.” It turns out that answer was wrong, but not as wrong as “9 wins or more.” The vast majority of votes went to “Appearance in playoffs” and “ACC Title and appearance in playoffs” with both those garnering 79.7 percent of the total vote at last check (40.6 percent for playoffs, 39.1 percent winning the ACC title / make the playoffs).
I tried to bring the expectations down, Mario, really I tried. I did it with my failed vote. I do it on our Good Morning show. But it turns out Miami better win the ACC and make the playoffs … or else.
Okay, with that out of the way let’s turn to some of the less moronic posts (I know, I know, that’s a reverse oxymoron):
o_CANE1983 is excellent at creating shopping lists: “1) must beat the Gators and Noles 2) 10 wins 3) CFP Appearance or ACCCG loss 4) No more than 1 loss in November. I need all 4 of those to happen for it to be successful. Only way I can budge on Gator loss would be if we go 12-1 winning the ACC.”
Kimzkr really, really, really likes abbreviations: “- little to no major injuries to starters – CMC not losing a game we shouldn’t – CB throwing for 3500/ 20 plus TD’s , and 8 or less int’s- two of three freshman WR’s step up – top 25 defense – reemergence of Bain – Lyle and Fletch as thunder and lightning – Lofton living up to da hype – new secondary reaching its potential. If most of these things accomplished, then I see 10-2 as ceiling and 9-3 as floor. IMO , ACCCG is the bar that has to be met, which, in turn, equates to a playoff berth. There are no more excuses!!”
Thanks for that KZ.
JcaneO is one of those folks that will just tell you that you’re a jerk but not explain why … “ACC title and Playoff appearance!!” is JC’s full post.
Canes76 sets the bar super low with “Successful year: Beating ND, FL, FSU. Winning the ACC. Winning a game in the playoffs. Signing a top 5 class.”
And we’ll give the final word to SylvaniaCane, who puts a personal twist on things.
S.C. posts that the key to a successful season will be based on “Just generally not smashing anything for me – TV… Coffee table… Punching a hole in the wall…”
