Coach Prime runs a tight ship and for good reason.
Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson sound off on Deion Sanders’ discipline at Colorado originally appeared on The Sporting News
In a recent episode of Nightcap with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, the two former NFL stars reacted to Deion Sanders’ hardline approach at Colorado. Sanders has made it clear: “For the players who violate the rule, consequences range from up, down, stadium runs, etc.”
Sharpe connected Sanders’ style to old-school coaching methods. “That’s old school coaching. I don’t even know if that would fly now, man. I think the players would lose their damn minds if a coach said, ‘No, we’re not going to eat on the plane home.’ That’s old school coaching. That’s the way they did it in the probably 70s, 80s, and 90s.”
He explained why Sanders is setting the tone. “The last thing that you want to do is have your players hurt one another. Hey, absolutely. Absolutely… So if it takes running the stadium stairs and doing whatever else you need to do to get that out of your system… so be it.”
Sharpe also pointed to the NIL era as a challenge. “I don’t know if this style of punishment worked because I think some guys are already looking. You coach a kid hard, he’ll jump in the transfer portal.”
Johnson, however, said Sanders’ reputation changes everything. “Even if players can jump in the portal, people want to go play for Deion Sanders. This is Deion Sanders. So you understand what that comes with. You understand the discipline that he expects out of you to be at your best.”
