Boston could make another big deal this summer.
NBA insider delivers trade update on Celtics' $100 million guard originally appeared on The Sporting News
Trades have been the name of the game for the Boston Celtics this offseason, and that isn’t changing anytime soon.
This summer has been a wild one for the Celtics. After winning the NBA title in 2024, the team is already tearing down its championship-winning core this offseason, shipping out Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.
Also letting Luke Kornet and Al Horford find new homes in free agency, the Celtics are getting set for a gap year while Jayson Tatum recovers from injury. Without any high expectations for what next season might hold, the Celtics could be looking at another big trade in the near future.
What is Anfernee Simons’ future in Boston?
In a recent report from NBA insider Jake Fischer, he noted that the Celtics are still looking to find a new home for Simons, who they acquired in the Holiday trade in late June. While Simons is an electric scoring guard who could certainly give Boston a boost, his $27.7 million price tag for next season might be more than Boston wants to keep.
Considering the Celtics have made all of their offseason moves with their financial situation in mind, it would make sense to effectively salary dump Simons in a similar fashion to Porzingis. Still, Simons is a bit of a polarizing player after playing on mostly bad teams in Portland.
Add in his expiring contract, and finding proper value for a player of his caliber could be a tough battle for the Celtics to win. With a couple of months before the season begins, the Celtics still have a chance to make yet another blockbuster deal.
