Brian Snitker's contract is up after this season and likely won't be signed to another deal. The Braves could stay within house for their next manager.
Braves predicted to replace Brian Snitker with 4-year Rockies manager with career losing record originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Atlanta Braves hadn’t had much go their way until recently, when they started a hot streak. The offense has finally awakened, and it might not slow down for some time. However, unless they rewrite some negative history, the Braves won’t make the playoffs.
“It’s still a long shot, but suddenly the most stunning comeback we’ve seen in a long time becomes feasible. The Braves have been on the opposite end of this situation before. In 2011, they were eight and a half games ahead of the Cardinals at the start of September, and the Cardinals came back. While not an example fans want to remember, the precedent of a crazy comeback is out there to use as inspiration, even if it was at a team’s own expense almost 15 years ago,” SI’s Harrison Smajovits wrote.
Manager Brian Snitker is in the last year of his contract, and it is unlikely he will be re-signed.
“Because of that consistent recent success, Snit would normally be afforded a ‘mulligan’ year—even though going from the second-best preseason World Series odds to possibly the third-best odds of winning the draft lottery is a pretty serious mulligan,” Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller wrote. “At 69, though, he's already the oldest manager in the National League by a several-year margin and was likely to retire at the end of this season, which is the last one in his current contract.”
A potential candidate to replace Snitker is bench coach Walt Weiss.
“Longtime Braves bench coach Walt Weiss is a pretty easy choice as a possible replacement. The players and front office know him well, he has previous managing experience with the Rockies, and there wouldn't be much of an adjustment period as he knows how the organization works. For those hoping for a change of pace, Weiss might not be the ideal choice. However, the team may feel like going with a safe pick is the wisest course of action and Weiss just might be that guy,” HTHB’s Eric Cole wrote.

Weiss has been under Snitker for some time now, and if there’s someone who knows the Braves players well, it’s him. Weiss doesn’t have much success as a manager, holding a losing record. However, the players in the clubhouse are comfortable with him, and there wouldn’t be a step back. For the Braves, this move wouldn’t be a shocker, as they usually prefer to stay within the clubhouse.
