The Yankees' rookie is in elite company.

Yankees' rookie pitcher is just behind Paul Skenes for impressive 2025 stat originally appeared on The Sporting News

After losing Gerrit Cole for the entirety of 2025 to an elbow injury, the Yankees knew they would need players to step up who could add quality depth to their pitching rotation.

The team has dealt with other injuries as well, only recently getting back the 2024 Rookie of the Year, Luis Gil.

New York had to experiment with different rotations and players, and might have found a gem that they stashed away for the last few seasons.

That player is Cam Schlittler, who has had a quality start to his career so far.

Through six appearances, Schlittler is already putting his name next to some of the league's star pitchers in one area.

What stat is Cam Schlittler just behind Paul Skenes in?

Schlittler was back in action for another outing on Tuesday when the Yankees broadcast showed a graphic of how good Schlittler has been in one area of his game.

The graphic said, "Cam Schlittler is on the short list of the hardest four-seam fastball throwers this season in all of baseball" (via Talkin' Yanks).

The criteria for this stat are players who have thrown at least 400 4-seam fastball pitches in 2025. Schlittler has averaged a 4-seam fastball of 98.0 mph to this point in the season.

Pirates' ace Paul Skenes sits just in front of Schlittler, with an average 4-seam fastball of 98.2 mph.

The four other players in front of Schlittler include Chase Burns (98.4 mph), Joe Boyle (98.8 mph), Hunter Greene (99.3 mph) and Jacob Misiorowski (99.3).

This stat isn't the end-all all be-all, but it's a good indicator of what's to come for the 24-year-old.
