The high school football season will formally kick off for most South Florida high schools this weekend, including a number of which that will be featured in the Broward County High School National Football Showcase Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Miami-Dade county schools will also begin their seasons this weekend, although prominent Broward schools will be featured on television.
Here’s which games matter and what Miami fans should look for.
Thursday: Monarch (Fla.) vs. The Bolles School (Fla.)
– Where: Dillard HS
– When: 8 p.m. EST on BECON-TV
The Bolles School is one of the most stacked schools in Florida this year between 2026 prospects like top-100 Clemson receiver commit Naeem Burroughs, four-star Ohio State safety commit Simeon Caldwell and three-star Ohio State tight end commit Corbyn Fordham, but Miami fans should keep close eyes on three-star Miami interior offensive line commit JJ Sparks and top-10 2028 EDGE Asher Ghioto, who we think could become a top Hurricane target down the line. This will be our first time seeing Sparks play in person.
Friday: West Broward (Fla.) vs. Corner Canyon (Utah)
– Where: Dillard HS
– When: 4 p.m. EST onBECON-TV
West Broward, one year removed from producing top-100 Miami receiver signee Joshua Moore, looks to be loaded with talent in future classes. 2028 cornerback A’Mir Sears checked in as the No. 4 overall prospect in the class, and ATH Aden Johnson is currently a top-35 player in the Rivals Industry Ranking. Four-star 2027 running back Amos Bradford is currently committed to Toledo but is picking up national interest. We think there’s a good chance we see all three at Miami home games this fall. Corner Canyon has a trio of 2026 Power Conference commits in four-star USC interior offensive line pledge Esun Tafa, four-star Texas A&M quarterback commit Helaman Casuga and three-star Minnesota commit Kai Meza, although Miami isn’t involved with any of them.
Friday: American Heritage (Fla.) vs. St. Joe’s Prep (Pa.)
– Where: St. Thomas Aquinas HS
– When: 6 p.m. EST on ESPN2
American Heritage may have arguably the toughest schedule of any high school team in the country, but the Patriots should have the talent to go toe-to-toe with or beat anyone they face. American Heritage has seven 2026 players currently committed to FBS schools ranging from No. 2 overall prospect Dia Bell (Texas) to three-star receiver Jamar Denson (Troy), although Miami is currently keeping tabs on three-star Georgia Tech linebacker commit Kymani Morales and four-star 2027 cornerback Amare Nugent. Both will be at Miami’s season opener against Notre Dame. Fans can also watch St. Joe’s Prep 2027 starting quarterback Charlie Foulke, who was high on the Hurricanes after landing an offer this spring.
Saturday: St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) vs. Mater Dei (Calif.)
– Where: St. Thomas Aquinas HS
– When: 3:30 p.m. EST on ESPN
More than 20 FBS prospects in the 2026 and 2027 classes will play in this game, but Hurricane fans should be intrigued to watch four-star St. Thomas Aquinas 2026 cornerback and Georgia commit Justice Fitzpatrick, who Miami is fighting hard to flip, and elite 2027 prospects like top-five recruit Mark Matthews, four-star defensive backs Jaden Carey, Zayden Gamble and Samari Howard and top-100 receiver Julius Jones. We’ll watch four-star top-75 2027 cornerback Aaryn Washington on the Mater Dei side.
Saturday: Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.) vs. St. Frances Academy (Md.)
– Where: St. Thomas Aquinas HS
– When: 8 p.m. EST on ESPN2
We’ll once again look at top-50 Texas running back commit Derrek Cooper and four-star Florida State receiver commit Jasen Lopez for Chaminade, which we did last week during the Lions’ exhibition match against West Boca. St. Frances has effectively become the IMG Academy of the Northeast and has two 2026 five-star prospects in Maryland EDGE commit Zion Elee and Alabama safety commit Jireh Edwards, but we’ll keep an eye on uncommitted four-star linebacker DQ Forkpa, who Miami was involved with this summer. We could see ourselves watching three-star cornerback Hakim Satterwhite too if he performs particularly well.
