The LSU Tigers have a case for being the foremost receiver developers in college football. Billy Napier’s Florida Gators are going toe-to-toe with them for one of the best recruits in the country at that position, five-star Easton Royal.
“LSU and Florida are at the top for Rivals’ 2027 No. 2 WR Easton Royal, he tells @samspiegs,” Rivals wrote Tuesday on X. “‘Those are definitely the two schools leading right now.’”
Royal registered 1,149 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns as a sophomore at New Orleans’ Brother Martin High School. He also ran a 10.38-second 100-meter dash on the track this past season. He’s tabbed as the No. 3 receiver in 247Sports’ composite rankings, behind only Ohio State Buckeyes commit Jamier Brown (No. 1) and Monshun Sales (No. 2).
According to that same recruiting service, the Gators haven’t yet offered Royal, who does have SEC offers from Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M. At the moment, Florida’s lone Class of 2027 wideout pledge is three-star Tramond Collins.
Rivals ranked Royal as the No. 6 overall performer at the Under Armour Future 50 late last month. Another in that bunch included fellow Louisianan and No. 1 Class of 2027 quarterback Elijah Haven, who’s also expressed interest in joining Napier’s program. Haven is also interested in LSU and Ohio State.
Four-star receivers Julius Jones and Osani Gayles, respectively ranked No. 56 and No. 50 in 247Sports’ Class of 2027 composite rankings, also stood out at the event. Florida has offered both.
