Ida will go into the single-elimination phase of the 51st annual Monroe County Fair Softball Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
MONROE – Ida was perfect Monday and just shy of perfect Tuesday.
That led to Travis Lusky’s team wrapping up the No. 1 seed in the 51st annual Monroe County Fair Softball Tournament.
Ida’s pitchers were perfect against Monroe Monday and followed that up with a no-hitter against Frenchtown on Tuesday, July 8.
Both games ended as 15-0 mercy-rule victories.
Ida carries the No. 1 seed heading into the single-elimination tournament that will crown the champion.
“Every kid on the team is contributing,” Lusky said. “We’ve only given up one hit (in three games).”
Even though South Rockwood has won the last four Fair titles, Lusky is not surprised to be the No. 1 seed.
“I knew we had a strong team, so we would have a good chance,” he said.
Logan Everett and Sadie Lusky have handled the pitching for Ida.
“They were two of our three pitchers last year and actually could pitch again next year,” he said. “They mix up locations, throw lots of strikes and hit their locations.”
Monroe will play Frenchtown at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9. The winner will stay on the Fairgrounds Diamond off S. Raisinville Rd. to play Ida in the second game.
Four-time defending champion South Rockwood will take on Erie Mason in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 10.
The championship game is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
Everett and Lusky combined on a perfect game with nine strikeouts as Ida cruised past Monroe 15-0 on Monday.
Averie Hammack-Gill and Ava Ferguson drew walks and Payton Maddux was hit by a pitch for Frenchtown’s only baserunners Tuesday.
Ida’s offense also was practically perfect with the maximum five runs in each of its six innings in the two games.
Tinley Prewitt, Luna Spencer, Gabbie Rosengarten had two hits each for Ida. Spencer drove in five runs and Ella Derian and Lusky plated two apiece.
“Great overall team hitting,” Ida coach Travis Lusky said. “Every kid on the team had at least one hit.”
Quinn Parker and Logan Everett logged two hits each and Parker, Ella Derian, Prewitt and Hosanna McMonagle scored two times apiece.
South Rockwood broke open a close game with a five-run fourth inning to beat Monroe 10-0 in Tuesday’s first game.
Lead-off hitter Sophia Piepsney stroked a double and scored in the big inning. She finished with two hits and two runs.
Consecutive hits by the bottom three hitters in the order – Piper Cadogan, Camille Chattel and Stella Omler – keyed a three-run second inning.
South Rockwood pitchers combined on a no-hitter.
Riley Brighton hit two home runs and tossed two no-hit innings as Erie Mason beat Frenchtown 11-5 Monday.
Her 9-year-old sister Parker and Aubrey Hodge also pitched well for Mason.
“We are starting to put the pieces together,” Mason coach Angie Gerber said. “The best thing about this group is that they are anxious to learn and have shown continuous growth in the short time we’ve been able to work with them.”
